With regret, the directors of Ambleside Community Christmas Lights Ltd have concluded that they have no option but to cancel significant parts of this year's activities once more.

The Covid pandemic is not yet over and despite many people having had their vaccines, the risks resulting from a large switch on event are still too high.

Therefore we have, after serious consideration , come to the conclusion that the following events must be cancelled for 2021:

•  The Lantern Workshops (usually held in the October half term)

•  All the events associated with the Switch-on Day (3rd Saturday in November)

•  The Father Christmas Cruises

•  The Lantern Parade and switch-on

•  The fireworks display

•  The community stalls in the Market Cross area

•  The fun zone activities in the school playground

Once again, we hope that we may be able to put up the Christmas Lights around the town, depending upon any restrictions in force during October and early November.

We also hope to continue with the shop window competition if possible.

Like every other town in the UK, Ambleside looks forward to be able to “get back to normality” but at the moment the directors have to take a realistic view and try to minimise the risk of the disease spreading through our event.

We also have to give sufficient notice to our suppliers (Windermere Lake Cruises and the fireworks providers) as well as accommodation providers who will need to contact anyone who has already made a booking for the Christmas Lights Weekend.

We will update our websites and Facebook page with any further information if and when it arises.
